PAST POSTS [verses below]-
. In the mind of Plato- the body was a receptacle- in this life we
recollect the knowledge that comes from the Idea world.
He ascribed Ontological status to ideas themselves.
In Philosophy there are 2 basic ways knowledge comes [we study
this in Epistemology- an offshoot of Philosophy- which deals with how we know
things].
A Priori knowledge is knowledge obtained independent of
experience.
A Posteriori is knowledge obtained thru the senses- what we call
Empirical evidence.
In Plato’s schema he believed that the knowledge that comes to us
from the Formal world [ideas- forms] was A Priori knowledge- that the human
mind recalls- and in the present material world- knowledge comes to us from the
perfect idea world.
The Greeks believed that all matter was flawed- that the Body was
an imperfect vessel- and after death we are released into the perfect world-
and free from the material realm.
Christian Tradition does not hold to this view.
The Church teaches that the created world is good- not evil.
Among Christians there is some confusion about this- because the
older versions of the bible [King James] seem to teach that matter [world,
flesh] is evil.
Why?
Paul the apostle talks about no good thing being in The Flesh- he
talks about the Carnal mind- the apostle John says ‘all that is in the World-
the lust of the flesh- the pride of life- is not of the Father but is of the
world’.
There are many references like this in the bible- but they are
speaking about the sinful nature of man [the flesh] and not about the human
body itself [For instance Paul says in Romans ‘present your BODIES as living
sacrifices unto God- Holy and acceptable’ in Corinthians ‘your BODY is the
temple of the Holy Spirit’- there are many references in scripture that speak
of the Body as Holy.
When the bible says ‘satan is the god of this world’ it is not
speaking of the earth- which God created- and calls GOOD- but it is speaking of
the ‘world’ system- an age of wickedness.
So- at times Christians have confused this- and have held a sort
of Dualistic view of matter- that is not the biblical view- but a Gnostic view-
that all matter is evil.
Plato saw the unseen world of Ideas as the perfect- pure world.
He taught that in this life we obtain the knowledge of the pure-
by reason of recollection- that these pure ideas come to us ‘are recalled’ in
this life.
He is famous for founding the first Philosophical school- it was
called The Academy- named after a man by the name of Academus.
The land was donated for the school- it was previously used as an
Olive Grove- and in honor of the donation- Plato named the school after the
donor.
This is why we use the phrase ‘The Groves of Academia’ today.
Plato was actually a nick name- he wrestled in Athens- in a sort
of precursor to what would later become the Olympic games- and he was broad
shouldered- that’s where his name comes from- Plato means broad shouldered.
So- to sum up- Plato believed that Forms [ideas] were eternal, the
cause of all that is.
He believed we are born with innate ideas- these are not learned
thru sense experience- but exist independently of the mind- and in this bodily
life we retrieve [the body is a receptacle] these ideas.
Does the bible teach anything along these lines?
Not exactly.
Christians believe that God himself is infinite- without beginning
or end.
That wisdom- ideas- ‘forms’ of things do indeed exist- prior to
our own life.
But these ideas are not without a Mind- God is Spirit- and he is
everywhere [Omnipresent] he knows all tings [Omniscient] - so- in a way- there
are indeed ideas- forms- but they come from the ultimate Mind of God.
A good example would be the building of the Tabernacle- and later
the Temple- under Moses and King David [his son Solomon actually built it].
God told Moses ‘see that you build it after the Pattern shown to
thee in the mount’.
In the book of Hebrews we read that the earthly Tabernacle
[Temple] was simply an

HEBREWS 1-3 The next few weeks I’ll be teaching from an old commentary
I wrote a few years back [2007-8]- The notes at the bottom of the chapters- and
post- are new [as well as the videos].
NEW NOTE- In the study of the bible- there are debates about who wrote
the letters of the New Testament.
In the field of higher criticism- it gets a bit silly at times.
I just finished an on line course from a respected scholar out of Yale
university.
He taught from the higher criticism perspective- I enjoyed the course-
though I did not agree with lots of his conclusions.
At one point he questioned whether Paul wrote the middle chapter of one
of the letters attributed to Paul.
Yet he did believe the first- and last chapters were by Paul.
For the most part- we believe that the letters in the bible- that say
in them ‘written by Paul’ are from Paul [or Peter, James, Etc.].
But- Hebrews leaves the authors name out- so some debate who wrote it.
Tertullian- an early church father [2/3rd century]
attributed it to Barnabus- Paul’s companion that we read about in the book of
Acts-
For about 1500 years- till the time of the Reformation- most Christian
scholars attributed it to Paul.
Hebrews is written in a high form of Greek [which is another way we
determine who wrote the letters- tough this is not always accurate.
Many say John the apostle did not write Revelation- because the form of
Greek used is much lower than the other writings of John- yet- there is
internal witness that John [the apostle] wrote it.
In John’s writings [gospel- 1st, 2nd and 3rd
John] he speaks about Jesus as the Word [Logos] and this theme is seen in
Revelation too].
So- while we don’t know for sure- I personally stick with the
authorship of Paul the apostle.
INTRODUCTION:
I have been wanting to overview this book for
a long time. I believe there are a lot of misconceptions from Hebrews. Often
time’s modern translations take older books of the Bible and want to make them
relevant for our day. This can be both good and bad.
I like the message Bible, but for in depth
study it doesn’t really work. There are certain things that must be interpreted
in context of the time and place when
the book was written. Hebrews is one of the most important New Testament books
to ‘read in context’. I wont go over every verse in this short commentary, I
will hit the high points of various chapters and try to show you what I mean by
‘reading it in context’.
[parts]
Some believe that Homer never
actually wrote the poems- but that he told the stories- like Oral Tradition-
and they were later written down by others.
Sort of like the classic-
Paradise Lost- by John Milton. Milton was blind- and told the story to his
daughters [oral tradition] and the actual work was penned by those who heard
it.
Jesus himself used this method-
he never wrote a book- or letter in the New Testament- yet the gospels were
compiled by his men after his death.
We read about this when Luke [who
I mentioned above] gives the reason for his documenting stuff in the book of
Acts [read Acts chapter one].
Luke also wrote his gospel a few
years after the death and resurrection of Christ.
So- some believe the same thing
happened with Homer- those who heard him tell the story multiple times- simply
put it together later on.
Most scholars believe that Homer
did indeed write the poems- and that the famous Trojan War was a real
historical event.
Last year- when in North Bergen-
my atheist friend Daniel said he watched a PBS show- and he said ‘even a priest
said the bible was Myth’.
I explained to Daniel that when
the more liberal scholars use this term [like in the writings of Bultman] that
they do not mean ‘fake’- like Greek Mythology.
But they mean that some of the
stories in the gospels might be a compilation of the many Oral teachings of
Jesus- and they were put together as one story [some think the Sermon on the
Mount was actually multiple teachings Jesus did- and they were compiled into
one event].
Now- when I explained this to
Daniel- he said ‘see- even you believe it was Myth’.
I told Daniel that no- I do not
hold to this theory [not 100%] but that I was simply telling him that even
those who use the term Myth- when talking about Theology- they do not mean
Myth- as in fake.
So- I find it interesting that
both the New testament- and Homers poems- got the same scrutiny.
In these poems we do indeed see
the condition of man- which Homer depicts as one of constant war- not peace.
James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and
cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye
may consume it upon your lusts.
Homers poems are considered by
some to be the beginning of the great works of Western literature- of which there
are many.
The great writer C.S. Lewis- who
rejected Christianity for many years- later became a believer.
He attributed his conversion to
the fact that he could not escape the reality of the Church- or Christian
themes- found in all the fields of study.
Whether it was the classics- or
history- philosophy.
He said every were he read-
studied- he could not escape this scarlet thread that ran thru out all the
fields of knowledge.
Yeah- in the end- his thirst for
knowledge- his intellectual search- led him to the Cross.
Jesus- in a way- was a 1st
century Achilles- he battled the forces of darkness- for the honor of a woman-
the Bride- the church.
He- Like Achilles- chose a just
death- for a just cause.
There’s a prophecy in the Old
Testament- it speaks of Christ ‘the zeal of thine house has eaten me up’.
Jesus was a righteous warrior- a
prophet, priest and king- and he had a zeal for the church- that far exceeded
anything we find in Homers poems.
.
Verses quoted on the video-
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah
Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing
before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist
him.
Zechariah 3:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee,
O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a
brand plucked out of the fire?
Zechariah 3:3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and
stood before the angel.
Zechariah 3:4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood
before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he
said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe
thee with change of

I caught the show Journey Home the other night- it’s the
Catholic show hosted by Marcus Grodi- he does interesting interviews with ex
protestants who have ‘returned home’ to the Catholic church. The guy he had on
was a former Fundamental Baptist minister who is now Catholic. For those of you
who are not familiar with Christian fundamentalism- this is no minor change.
Most Fundamentalist Baptists hold to a very anti Catholic stand. Anyway it was
interesting to hear his journey- how he came to learn church history and he was
open to the story of Christianity down thru the ages. I felt he was a little
too defensive of his Catholic faith- he quoted a bunch of verses from the book
of Acts to kinda say ‘see- they were Catholics’ in the fully orbed sense of the
word [Bishops, 7 sacraments, etc.] I did like the brother- it was just you
could sense the old protestant reasoning in using proof texts to carry your
argument thru to a quick, pat conclusion. Often times this way of proving
‘who’s right’ overlooks the importance of learning over a period of time- thru
becoming familiar with lots of sources and at the end of the day you see that
no ‘one church’ can really lay claim to their church being fully found in the
bible.
What I mean by this is the bible gives us the story of the
beginnings of Christianity and we really see the church in her infancy while
reading the bible- we don’t yet see any particular Christian church fully
formed in the scripture. Though many churches have their arguments- they will
quote verses all day on why they are the ‘true church’ or ‘best one’ yet I like
the more moderate approach- True Christians are found in all denominations and
the ‘true church’ consists of all those in the various groups who truly embrace
Christ.
So for today- be patient with the door knockers- maybe you
are a door knocker? If so, let’s all sit at the table- listen to each other and
try to view people thru the lens of mercy. If my first thought of you is
‘radical Muslim’ or ‘evil cult’ then it will be next to impossible for me to
relate to you in an open and honest way. I am not advocating the view that ‘all
religions lead to God’ I’m simply asking that we be more patient with people-
try and understand where they are coming from- I really have had some very open
talks with lots of these groups- very upfront with them- I say ‘this is why
historic Christianity views you as a cult’ yes I say that- but I say it in a
way- during an ongoing conversation- that allows them time to respond and share
their view- and I too respond and have an open conversation. I have found this
to be the best way to relate to various religious groups- hope you do to.
[1633] RADIO WARS and some other stuff.
Okay, confession time again. Every so often I admit a fault,
yes- I face the blog community and do the ‘I confess to almighty God and to you
my brothers and sisters- that I have sinned …’ my Catholic readers know the
scoop. Catholics have a pretty good track record on confession- they confess to
another person every so often. Most Protestants don’t realize that the original
Protestant movement that was launched in the 16th century- these
reformers did not have a big problem with confessing to a Priest. The book of
James [in the New Testament] speaks about confessing to each other- and the
Protestants really did not make a big deal over this issue- initially. Later on
doctrines like this became a big division- but not initially.
Okay- here’s the confession. Over the years I have battled
with my kids over the bathroom radio [my 2 oldest- 18, 19] still live at home
and they turn the station to the rock channel when they take showers- now I
like rock- classic. My driving around station is the local classic rock channel
[104.5]. But in the morning I like the Christian station before I write/speak
[record a radio show]. So we go back and forth on it. About a week ago my bathroom
radio broke- I had the thing for around 25 years- no joke- I used to record
radio shows from the thing [the cassette recorder on top]. So being the frugal
person that I am [cheap] instead of breaking down and buying another radio
[geez- I only get 25 years out of them!] I go to the garage and work on the one
that I have sitting in there for yes- around 25 years. This one has worked all
along; you just couldn’t change the dial. You could turn it but it wouldn't
always work. So as I’m messing with it I get it to play on a Christian station
[air 1- kind of a rock Christian thing- okay] and I actually use the plumbers
glue to glue the thing permanently on the station. Now- I’m sure my kids think
‘geez- dad is serious about winning this radio war’ but the truth is if they
changed the dial it would be impossible to get back to the station. In the past
I wrote little notes on the radio ‘don’t remove this radio!! Ever!!’ They used
to take it from the bathroom and I’d never see it for weeks. But they didn’t listen
to my notes- in fact they mocked them. Some days I would get ready for the
morning shower and the note would say ‘I moved it!’ yes- they put it back- but
they took the time to mock my note.
So now I have the radio glued to the Christian rock station
[I prefer KLOVE- but Air 1 is okay] and this morning as I’m taking a shower I
hear the D. J. say ‘up next- Hanson’. Now- I didn’t even know Hanson [the boy
band- now older] was doing Christian music- I felt ‘dirty’ listening to them-
not because they were kid rockers- it’s just you can’t claim to be a classic
rocker and actually have listened to a complete song from Hanson- in a way it’s
like joining a cult. But I had no option- I was in the shower and the song just
played. I was surprised- they sounded real good. It reminded me of a story I
saw on one of the rock channels one day [VH1 ?] They were talking about Donny
Osmond’s break into the hard rock world. He was trying to shake the squeaky
clean image and made some good heavy metal type songs. They said the songs were
good- one of them [Soldier of Love] made it into the top 10 rock songs of the
day [in the 70’s]. Yet when the rock stations played the song they would simply
say ‘by an unknown artist’ they knew their listeners would rebel if they heard
a Donny Osmond song. So that’s my confession- yes- a few minutes ago I was
rocking out with Hanson- just hope none of my buddies find out about this.
Okay- being I already wasted all this space- let me hit a
few short things. I just finished the book of Proverbs again [reading it slowly
over a few weeks] and there were a lot of points I wanted to hit- maybe the
next week or 2 I’ll get to some. I just started a new book on Philosophy- I
picked it up a few months ago at half price books and never looked at it until
last night- I like it a lot. I know the subject is controversial- many
Christians shy away from it- but if you study history [like I do a lot] you
will see the strong connection between philosophy and theology [study of God].
In the ancient universities [Paris- etc.] these were referred to as the main
subjects- Theology was the Queen of learning and philosophy was her handmaid.
So let me just give a short quote- Socrates said ‘the
unexamined life is not worth living’. Philosophy- as a system- started around
6oo years before Christ in Greek society. The popular guys we hear about-
Socrates, Plato and Aristotle- they lived around 3-350 years before Christ.
Christian teachers have taken different stances for and against philosophy. The
church father Tertullian said ‘what does Athens have to do with Jerusalem’
meaning philosophy and Christian teaching don’t go together. Yet the great
Swiss reformer- Ulrich Zwingli [16th century] was a well schooled
theologian- learned in many of the subjects of his day- like the great Catholic
scholar Erasmus. These guys were a little more refined [though Zwingli was
actually a warrior- killed for the cause] and they saw the Greek philosophers
as precursors to Christ- Zwingli believed he would see the great Greek
philosophers in heaven some day. So as you see the church has taken different
stances on the subject. It’s hard to say that philosophy had no role on
Christian thought- many Christians don’t realize that the apostle John almost
quoted verbatim from Greek philosophy when he used the phrase ‘In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God’ [John’s gospel-
chapter 1]. In Greek philosophy there was what was considered this ultimate
unified principle- that would bring all learning together as one giant truth-
this was called Logos- the Word. Greek philosophy had been looking for the Word
[Logos] for years- trying to find the one key truth that would tie all other
truth together- John was simply saying to Greek society ‘Look- we have found
the Truth- the Divine principle that you have been looking for’. So for John to
quote this in his gospel was not plagiarism [as some atheists contend] but
wisdom- he was speaking to the people in ways that would connect with
[parts]
‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen, FOR BY IT THE ELDERS OBTAINED A GOOD
REPORT [JUSTIFIED]’ This is the key verse to the chapter. Paul will go on to
prove that all the Old Testament figures that ‘pleased God’ did it by faith,
and not by works! ‘Through faith WE UNDERSTAND that the worlds were framed by
the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do
appear’ Faith is not ‘blind’. It informs and gives understanding. This
understanding is real! Let me show you what I mean. All of the universe and
creation had a beginning point. Science did not always know or believe this.
Today science teaches this. It is called ‘the point of singularity/density’.
Science has traced back the origins of all things and has found scientific
evidence to prove that all things had a ‘beginning point’. Now if you were to
ask science ‘what did you have right before the beginning point’? They are
stumped. Some of course believe in God and will boldly proclaim him at this
point. To the others they can not answer this question. Why? Because they
realize, thru science, that matter is not infinite.
Some have
theorized that either all things always existed [which science has now
disproved] or that at one point nothing existed [which science also teaches
that if this were true then you would have nothing today. You can not get
something from nothing!] So all true science has gone back to this ‘point of
singularity’ and can not see what is right before ‘the point’. The Christian
‘sees’ God at this point! He ‘understands’ that by necessity there has to have
been something that existed before creation, science teaches this. This
something can not have been created also, because then where did the ‘being’
who created ‘it’ come from? So science teaches us that whoever got the ball
rolling [Saint Thomas Aquinas calls this the ‘prime mover’] had to have been
preexistent/ self existent in order to have done it. And we know that creation
couldn’t have done it by itself, so therefore all reasoning and understanding
leave us at the philosophical point of ‘there had to have been
something/someone who existed forever in
order for anything to be today’. So now you see how ‘by faith we understand
that all things that now exist were brought into existence by someone who we
can not see’. FAITH UNDERSTANDS!
As we go thru the
rest of this chapter I want you to focus in on all the references of
justification by faith. You will be surprised [I think?] on how many examples
Paul gives to Israel
from their own history [his too!] on God justifying people by faith. I will
also try and show you [if I remember] how this chapter links the division
between Paul’s epistles to the gentiles [Romans, Galatians] with James letter
to the Jews. James was one of the lead Apostles at Jerusalem [Acts 15] and the Judaizers who
were always accusing Paul of preaching grace in a way that justified sin, they
came out of Jerusalem .
James and Paul were rivals in a sense. James had the difficult job of
overseeing the Church at Jerusalem ,

Ezekiel 34:22 Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey;
and I will judge between cattle and cattle.
Ezekiel 34:23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he
shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be
their shepherd.
Ezekiel 34:24 And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant
David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it.
Ezekiel 34:25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and
will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell
safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
Ezekiel 34:26 And I will make them and the places round about my
hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there
shall be showers of blessing.
Ezekiel 34:27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and
the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and
shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and
delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
Ezekiel 34:28 And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen,
neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely,
and none shall make them afraid.
Ezekiel 34:29 And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and
they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame
of the heathen any more.
John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to
heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also
may glorify thee:
John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he
should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the
only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the
work which thou gavest me to do.
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self
with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou
gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they
have kept thy word.
John 17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast
given me are of thee.
John 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest
me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from
thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them
which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
John 17:10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am
glorified in them.
John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the
world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom
thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy
name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the
son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
John 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the
world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated
them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
John 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the
world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
John 17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I
also sent them into the world.
John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also
might be sanctified through the truth.
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which
shall believe on me through their word;
John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me,
and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that
thou hast sent me.
John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them;
that they may be one, even as we are one:
John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made
perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast
loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me,
be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me:
for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but
I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will
declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in
them.

1Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of

1Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and
understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
1Corinthians 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the

1Corinthians 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity

1Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies,
they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1Corinthians 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1Corinthians 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then
that which is in part shall be done away.
1Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I
understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put
away childish things.
1Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but
then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am
known.
1Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these
three; but the greatest of these is charity.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with
them, and they shall be his people, and Godhimself
shall be with them, and be their God.

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in
particular. 1st Cor. 12:27
20 And when
he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he
answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
21 Neither
shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is
within you.
Luke 17
But their minds were blinded:
for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading ofthe old testament; which vail is done away
in Christ.
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the mindsof them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2nd Cor.
3 Let
nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each
esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not
every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this
mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who,
being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made
himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made
in the likeness of men:
8 And being
found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death,
even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name:
10 That at
the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in
earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father.
