FIRST LOVE- https://ccoutreach87.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/8-3-15-first-love.zip
The other day I said we might do some of the book of Revelation-
A few key things- in chapter 1 we see that these things will ‘shortly come to pass’.
So- many of the things we will see- in vision form- are things that happened already [in the first 2-3 centuries of the church].
There are many ‘wild’ interpretations of this book- which take away from the underlying theme of us- as the Bride of Christ-
Being ‘married’ to Jesus-
And we are indeed the ‘city of God coming down out of heaven’ [which later will be called the actual ‘Bride of Christ’].
See?
Some confusing stuff scholars argue about-
Are there 7 Spirits of God? [Mentioned in chapter 1].
What are the 7 stars John sees in Jesus right hand?
Are these the Pastors of the 7 churches that the letter is written to?
I hope to hit on this in the video-
But most of all- in this book we see Jesus and his people winning the battle against the forces of darkness.
It is not so much a chronological account of the end times that are played out one after another- but a picture of the battle that we face in life- and the great victory we have thru the Blood of the lamb.
So- some of the things we read are recurring cycles of the victory we have in God thru Christ.
Some take the book literally- and when they read about the beast- the image- the false prophet-
They see computer chips in heads- 666 stamped on our bodies- stuff like that.
Yet these same scholars will read that Jesus has a sword coming out of his mouth- and most of them see this as a symbolic image of the Word of God- not an actual steel sword in Jesus mouth.
So- as I hit on these chapters in the coming weeks- keep this in mind
Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Ok- what did Jesus have to say to the first church? [The letter is written to 7 actual churches in Asia Minor- some see these 7 churches as 7 church ages- stages-. There is nothing in the text itself that tells us this. So- let’s read the warnings and blessings- and apply them to us as well].
Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Revelation 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Revelation 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
